I’m always looking for an excuse to splurge on a big ticket item. My last one was this end of sabbatical work tote and it was so worth it. Since my birthday is just around the corner and I’ve been feeling like I “need” another pair of sunglasses, it’ll likely be my next gift to myself. When it comes to sunglasses, I believe bigger is better. Oversized sunglasses are great for someone who likes to hide behind them and even better to obnoxiously wear year-round. So no, it’s not too late in the season to buy another pair. While I have a collection of all kinds, from round to colored frames to aviators, right now I’m looking for a great pair of statement cat-eye glasses. I’m about to pull the trigger on one of these… can you guess which one?
There’s just less than a week left in the Nordstrom anniversary sale and I only just had a chance to browse around. So unlike me to be late to a sale, but I’ve been busy! With any sale, I’m either looking for items that are already on my shopping list or essentials/classics that I know I can wear for awhile. The Nike sneakers are sitting in my cart right now – I plan on wearing them pretty much everywhere except to work out. Fashion sneakers are an essential for every closet, as are statement necklaces, ankle booties and pumps, and the rest of my picks below.
I’m in a great mood today! Maybe because it’s Friday… and also because I finally got a lob (long bob)! What can I say, hair makes me happy! I’m really digging the much shorter hairstyle, way shorter than anything I’ve done in a very long time. I’ll debut next week – for now I need to go style it! Hope you have a great weekend!
favorite beauty tips: Speaking of hair, I discovered this website full of step by step hair tutorials that is totally worth checking out. Aside from the hair, the uncut look gives you that exclusive behind the scenes feel. (images via Sans Style)
favorite customized weekender: I’m likely headed to LA next weekend and have a few more extended weekend trips in the coming months. I have finally come to accept that my current (beautiful) leather Marc Jacobs weekender is just too heavy to practically use so it’s time to find a replacement. I landed on this Kate Spade Saturday weekender that I was able to customize to my taste! So fun.
favorite new overly indulgent dessert: I finally tasted a small bite of a cronut a few weeks ago (and no it was not gluten-free but I just had to try it) – totally overrated. But now I’m drooling at these churro ice cream sandwiches that are “popping up” around LA. (via laist)
Lace is one of my favorite clothing accents. Not really anything new. It’s versatile and feminine and well… I just gravitate towards it. I have lace everything – from dresses to tops to other pieces that just have minor lace detail. I’ve even worn lace several times on the blog (here and here). I have so much lace that I got to the point that every time I went shopping, my friends would look at my picks and just point out that I already had something like it. So over a year ago, I instituted a no lace rule for myself. It just seemed like I exhausted all the options and I could wear what I already own. Makes sense right? Well, after buying my wine tasting outfit and sending the link to Noa before the trip, her initial reaction was that it didn’t feel very ghaz. Her explanation? “Well, there is no lace.” After taking the long lace break, I think I’m ready to add more lace to my collection and here are just a few of the pieces I’m eyeing right now.
I know I’ve been absent from the blog this week. I caught a stomach bug (yuck, I know) which slowed me down quite a bit. Fortunately I’ve recovered just in time for the weekend. Hope you have a great one and stay healthy!
For this week’s favorites…
favorite kitchen tips: After posting my guacamole recipe early this week, my friend shared a list of top 10 kitchen tips which happens to include an interesting tip on how to keep your guacamole green for days (hint: it does not require loads of lime juice). I will also be trying to mason jar tip for my next breakfast smoothie. (via the Kitchn)
favorite beauty organizers: Having a fairly small space (with lots of “stuff”) in SF, I’m always looking for interesting ways of organizing and can definitely use some of these unconventional tips. (via Cosmopolitan)
favorite sale: Anthropologie is right in front of a stop on my daily bus route, so I stop by there way too often and have a long list of wants. I was pleasantly surprised that many of them went on sale yesterday! (find my favorites here)
favorite lace splurge: I love, love lace. It’s part of my signature look and some of my friends will tell me I have way too much of it. So of course I was drawn to this dress. And the shoes are just so perfect with it. (via Pink Peonies)
I also avoided all the Memorial Day sales. I just know my shopping habits all too well and I still have quite a bit of spring cleaning to do before I’m allowed to indulge in any spontaneous shopping sprees. Non-spontaneous and well thought out shopping, on the other hand, is totally within limits and right now I’m craving… culottes!
By the way, I’m a long time fan of culottes of all lengths. They can be quite polarizing. I have many pairs of culotte shorts and I often get that look… followed by, “are those shorts? or a skirt?” Chuckles.
I love that culottes look like a skirt but have that extra comfort that you get with shorts (and no accidental flashing after a gust of wind – definitely something to consider in windy SF!) But what I’m really loving is the longer culotte, a style that will be difficult to pull at my height (5’4) but I’m on the search to find the right pair. It’s such a versatile look – culottes can be worn to work, a casual weekend outing, or a night out.
What do you think of culottes? Is this a trend you’ll be wearing?

We all need at least one great black flat in our shoe closets. With all the walking I do in SF (along with my morning bus commute which may involve a lot of standing), I recently realized that my go-to black flat needs to be renewed. Although I know I should buy a classic black flat that can be worn with absolutely everything, I prefer one that has feminine details and can be worn with just most things. So many choices…
A red statement bag has been on my shopping list for awhile now and if you follow me on Instagram, you’ve probably seen that I finally bought one! I love my new Rebecca Minkoff zipper trim envelope handbag. The hot red color puts a smile on my face, and the straps can be removed to convert the handbag into a clutch. I was doing some shopping when I saw a similar red envelope bag at Forever 21. It is slightly larger to fit your wallet, sunglasses, and the rest of your daily essentials. That in combination with the deeper red color with a fun floral interior makes it a great alternative, so I felt compelled to share. What do you think? Which do you prefer?
Early spring is usually not the best time to shop the sales. Typically you’ll just find expired trends, but as with everything there are exceptions. 3 of my favorite stores are having sales right now and are totally worth checking out — in particularly Sephora, which is having a very rare store-wide sale until April 10th!
I also added some of summer-ready picks. Very tempting!
Sephora: Tria Hair Removal Laser // NARS satin lip pencil in Mandarin Orange (tempted to get another orange lipstick!) // Marc Jacobs nail laquer in magenta violet (color of the year!) // Bobbi Brown summer bronzer // Escada Cherry in the Air travel spray
Shopbop: Michael Kors block sandals (one of my 4 spring shoe trends to shop now) // IRO.JEANS skinny jeans in pink
AllSaints: AllSaints python flats

Sure, every spring it’s either pastels or bright colors that dominate the runways and then the stores and streets. This year, it’s all about the pastels but it takes on many different forms – from feminine lace (like the Rebecca Taylor lace tunic above) to a bit of edge (like the alice + olivia mint green leather skirt above). I’ve gathered some of my favorite pastel styles so far, from casual pieces to those with a bit more sass, and even a few with just a splash of pastel for those who may be on the fence. Isn’t the Zara jacket great?
