There are good and bad things about every type of hair. But one of the things that just really sucks about curly is second day hair. While most people love second day hair because it may look fuller or more volumized, curly hair tends to look frizzier and just plain messy. Bleh. I have friends who will wash their hair just so that they can style it again and I remember a time that I did that. Then I started playing around with some lazy hairstyles and also discovered another quick solution – a curling iron!
It may seem weird to use a curling iron on curly hair. But by merely adding a few curls to the top layer, you can bring life back to your tresses within minutes and people will actually think it’s natural! HA! Another lazy girl win.
To start, I pull the layer that I want to curl back and then clip the bottom layers that I will keep as is.
Before I begin curling my hair, I’ll spray a heat protectant that is safe for dry hair (my pick is Sebastian Trilliant) and then part my top layer the way I typically do. I begin curling my hair (using a 1 1/4 inch curling iron at 180 F) by starting with one side in the front. I take one piece, curl away from my face, and hold each piece in the curling iron for about 10 seconds before letting go and taking the next piece. I continue to do this moving towards the back of my head.
Once I complete one side, I repeat the same process on the other side. I keep all the curls intact and allow them to cool.
After I’m done curling my hair, I separate the curls with my fingers for a more natural look. You can follow with a serum if you have some frizz, but I usually let my hair be. Done!
