It’s fun to have a girls night in every so often, especially when the weather is less than ideal. Get your close girlfriends together and have a low key night of chick flicks and yummy food and drinks. It’s a great opportunity to watch the movies that your guy will never watch with you, or just go with one of the classics. I like to make themed cocktails and create a drinking game to play as we watch. Here are some of my favorite girls night in movies and cocktail ideas for each.
The Sweetest Thing: The storyline here is lacking quite a bit, but it’s a silly movie with enough funny (crude) moments that makes it worth getting the girls together for a few laughs. Just don’t take any of it too seriously.
Drinking pairing: an overly sweet Chocolate Martini (recipe here)
He’s Just Not That Into You: This romcom is based on the book that was popularized by Sex and the City. It has a great cast (Bradley Cooper, Jen Aniston), and there is a storyline for everyone. Some stay true to the book, and others are exceptions to the rule.
Drink pairing: the alcohol that probably doesn’t treat you so well. For most of us, that will be a tequila based cocktail like this Cucumber Margarita.
Clueless: A classic. It’s full of ridiculous fashion (some of which is questionably back in style) and witty one liners. Always a great movie to revisit.
Drink pairing: “Fireball” Whiskey cocktail (like these 3 here). I feel like people who like fireball just don’t know any better, so it seems appropriate.
Bridesmaids: Another classic, full of hilarious moments. The scene that Kristen Wiig’s character tries to sneak into first class always cracks me up. “HELP ME, I’M POOR”.
Drinking pairing: Something with champagne, like this Pomberry Limoncello cocktail.
The September Issue: If you’re looking for serious fashion, watch this documentary on the making of the September 2007 issue of Vogue magazine. It’s an interesting look at the fashion world, and really how much of it is controlled by Anna Wintour. For the true fashionista, it has fashion week scenes and ones with some of your favorite designers.
Drinking pairing: A much more serious and stiff drink, like a Vodka Martini with blue cheese olives.
